One of our classic offerings, the "Tunisia Tour" has been a staple of our program for 30 years. The journey begins in Sicily, which can be reached by ferry from Livorno or Genoa. Alternatively, you can travel overland—just as the tour guides do—by taking the "Calabria-Sicily" tour.
Significant trading hubs existed along the North African coast as far back as antiquity. Carthage predates the Roman Republic and once dominated the western Mediterranean. This tour features a wealth of ancient ruins from Punic, Roman, and other eras—yet it is not intended to be a trip solely for archaeology enthusiasts.
Pulsating souks and markets, Berber villages, fortified granaries clinging to cliff faces, oases amidst barren landscapes, salt lakes, dromedary herds, and film sets—Tunisia offers all this and more in the autumn.
You will experience the full diversity of the smallest North African nation: ever-changing landscapes, ancient sites, and villages where time seems to have stood still for ages—all in contrast to the cosmopolitan city of Tunis and modern tourist resorts.
The return journey departs from Tunis by ferry, for example to Palermo or Genoa. Extend your summer in the south!
